Basic concepts of Automated Guided Vehicle

The use of automated guided vehicles is gaining popularity among manufacturing facilities and warehouses.  AGVs serve to carry loads and tow cargos behind them in pallets or trailers.  These trailers are used to move raw materials and finished production, thereby saving labor.

AGVs can be available according to different demands and designs.  That is, almost all AGVs are customized to shift cargos and packages, preprogrammed to travel along production lines throughout a plant or a warehouse.

In other words, an AGV is a preprogrammed vehicle that can work independently and is guided along defined pathways.

Types of AGVs:

  1. Driverless trains:

The main body structure of a driverless train is a towing vehicle that connects with one or more trailers to form a train, which is a highly efficient transportation system.

  1. AGV’s pallet trucks:

Pallet trucks focus on moving palletized loads on preset courses.  It can complete tasks of vertical movement and reach loads on shelves.

  1. Unit load carriers:

Unit load carriers are used to move loads from one point to another, involving the ideas of automatic loading and unloading of pallets of goods.

What are benefits of employing a AGV?

  • Reduce employment of labor
  • Intelligent
  • Time saving
  • Considerably reduce warehouse costs because of less manpower needed
